The fruit for the 2012 Long Road Shiraz is sourced from high country vineyards across NSW. The wine is made up predominantly of Gundagai Shiraz and a small amount of Canberra Shiraz. The goal being to blend a wine that represents our high country home and importantly our house style. 94% Gundagai Shiraz, 5 % Canberra Shiraz, 1% Hilltops Shiraz.
The wine displays an attractive, lifted perfume, with bright red fruits and berries, warm spicy notes, and a hint of roasted herbs, juniper and gun smoke. The palate is vinous, highly structured and dense with pillowy, plush tannins and excellent length.
85% of the fruit was de-stemmed with 15% left as whole bunches for complexity, structure and perfume. On average the fermentation lasted 15 days and were gently pressed directly to old 500 litre puncheons for 12 months maturation. All the components were then blended and bottled.
