Since its very first Vintage when it won the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, The Long Road Shiraz has quickly become one of the most storied and eagerly sought-after Shiraz wines.
Part of the intrigue of The Long Road Shiraz stems from the fact that it was born to express the new and exciting wine regions around the high country of NSW, as an elegant and contemporary style of Shiraz. The style has evolved since 2008, when exploring the high country of NSW predominantly involved Canberra and the Hilltops region. It has now extended to include the hidden jewel of the Gundagai region as a thriving source for Long Road Shiraz.
The Long Road Shiraz continues to fascinate wine show judges and wine critics, winning three trophies at the Canberra regional wine show for Best Shiraz, Best Red Wine, and best wine of the show. The Long Road Shiraz then went on to win Australia’s most sought after trophy, the Jimmy Watson memorial trophy at the Melbourne Wine Show. As recently as November 2012, The Long Road Shiraz won the Trophy for Best Shiraz at the National Show.
Eden Road Wines is proud to announce the appointment of Celine Rousseau as Winemaker and Manager at Eden Road.
Rousseau joins Eden Road from the highly regarded High Country NSW wine company Chalkers Crossing, where she was founding Winemaker and Manager since 1999. Under Rousseau's leadership Chalkers Crossing has won numerous awards, including five stars in the James Halliday Wine Companion and Gourmet Traveller Magazine and, most recently, 5 trophies at the 2016 KPMG Royal Sydney wine show, and four trophies at the 2016 National Wine Show of Australia. Rousseau is herself a past Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year.
Rousseau arrived in Western Australia in 1997 and is regarded by her peers as one of the best winemakers in Australia. Born in Paris and trained in Bordeaux, she honed her skills in Chateaux in Bordeaux, Champagne and Languedoc in France, as well as in Western Australian wineries.
Commenting on her appointment, Rousseau said: "I am delighted to join Eden Road and bring my understanding and years of experience of high country terroir to Eden Road's winemaking. I look forward to growing and developing the high quality of wines for which the brand is known and admired".
After completing her Bachelor of Winemaking and Oenology, Brigitte worked with Craggy Range (NZ), Mumm Napa (California) and most recently with Willow Bridge Estate in Western Australia
She cites the late Simon Burnell for greatly influencing her during her time in WA. “When the fruit arrives at 100%, it’s about not losing too many of the one percents in the winemaking process.”
Brigitte’s passion for winemaking stems from the science of creating something people can enjoy and truly showcasing the regionality within a wine.
